2010 News - Scott Potter for Winterthur New Traditions©

Scott Potter Designs and Alloyed Arts are pleased to announce a new partnership between Scott Potter and Winterthur Museum, our country’s preeminent decorative arts institution. As a proud licensee for Winterthur, Scott Potter is creating a new line of decorative home accessories and gifts based on Winterthur’s wide-ranging and spectacular archives. The New Traditions© line will debut at the New York Gift Fair, August 14-18, Booth 9212 in the Handmade Section, in the newly redesigned Jacob Javits Center’s North Pavilion.

Working closely with Winterthur, Scott Potter draws from original masterpieces spanning several centuries and continents. In combining this with his own hand-cut decoupage, gilding and glazing, New Traditions^© gives charming and vibrant historical images a brilliant new appeal for today’s connoisseur.

If you are looking for a special motif and don't see it, we can create it for you. Every order is custom. Please inquire at spcollection@alloyedarts.com. We will be happy to email you Scott Potter and Simply Scott price lists. When we review and confirm your order with you, we will notify you of our delivery schedule estimate. Orders are typically delivered within 1-3 weeks of confirmation. Complex or unusual pieces may require more time.

About Scott Potter

Scott’s traditional and contemporary designs enchant collectors around the world. The range includes tabletop and entertaining, bridal and boudoir accessories, and spectacular personal, corporate and holiday gifts, lighting, and interior decor. We are happy to develop new designs using a special color, your personal details and sentiments, or corporate logos and mastheads. The PatternLibrary, BackgroundFinishes , and Profiles sections show our growing selection of exquisite design possibilities. Scott creates new designs for each season. Every piece is custom-made and hand-signed by Scott in his Portland, Maine studio. The Simply Scott line uses subtle paint backgrounds (see Background Finishes) as an alternative to gold leaf.

Scott Potter’s love of formal design began with his career as a classically trained dancer. As a choreographer and principal dancer, he toured extensively in the United States and in Europe, where his avid interest in beautiful forms lead him to begin collecting rare antique prints. His love of dance movement and costume design fueled his desire for further visual expression through lasting decorative art. Since 1992, Scott Potter has offered his vivid designs to the trade and through retailers, defining an unparalleled standard with the combined mediums of découpage and gilding on glass.

In creating new compositions with patterns, color, and gold leaf , Scott has redefined traditional découpage. His mastery has garnered two first prizes, for Best Gilded Glass (2005) and Best Product Line (2006) in the national Pride of Place Competition, a decorative arts industry standard bearer. This competition launched a new relationship between Scott Potter and Jennifer Longworth of Alloyed Arts, a champion of American decorative art. Together, they have created a new and comprehensive online resource for Scott Potter’s collection.
